And the game compatibility of ESR is even higher than that for OPL, somewhere in the range above 99%.īut it requires special patching of the ISO files before burning to disc. Such a disc can then be used on a console with ESR installed almost as if you had a modchip. But if you prefer disc-based backups the standard FMCB installs also include the utility ESR, which gives an unmodded PS2 console the ability to run games as burned DVD-R backups, provided only that you add a special ESR-patch to such an ISO file before burning it to disc. And when OPL is done initializing (maybe 10 seconds) it presents me with a list of the currently 229 PS2 games I have installed in the OPL fileshare of one of the PCs in my LAN. (SMB is the native filesharing protocol of Windows.) That last is the method I mostly use myself with my own unmodded SCPH-77004, where I always boot FMCB with autolaunch of the homebrew manager 'uLaunchELF' (aka: uLE) where I then can use a quicklaunch button I set up in the uLE menu for starting OPL. And OPL also has the ability to use other media such as internal HDD of a fat PS2, or by loading games over LAN from storage on a PC, or any other SMB server.
